Ian is a leading documentary Director and Producer, originally from the Waikato in New Zealand, he is now based in the West Yorkshire Moors in the UK. His work directing on location informs what is needed for strong editorial storytelling as an Edit Producer and vice versa.

He has worked on some of the most talked about documentaries streaming internationally. He wrote and post directed episodes of the Netflix original series Dark Tourist before moving on to three seasons of Emmy award-winning, Formula 1: Drive to Survive. Managing a deadline focussed editorial workflow efficiently by running multiple edit suites concurrently.

Creator and Series Producer/Director of Discovery THREE’s critically acclaimed observational documentary series Taranaki Hard, Ian also wrote and post-directed on Channel 4 UK’s hit documentary The Great Amazon Heist with Oobah Butler and most recently on the BBC series Ashley Cain: Into The Danger Zone.

As a commercial creative producer he has led numerous campaigns and branded content for clients such as Audi, National Geographic, Glenmorangie, Müller and Hyundai.

Ian is also an award-winning animation filmmaker, winning Best Director at the New Zealand Music Awards for his work on the music video Her Hairagami Set for The Brunettes.

He has served as a judge for The Emmy Awards on the Sports Documentary and Documentary Feature category panels.
